The first foal for three-time grade I winner Fort Larned arrived Jan. 26. The bay colt, born at Calloway Stables near Murray, Ky., is out of Belvedera, a daughter of Awesome Again —Forever Land, by Badger Land.
Forever Land, winner of the Astoria Breeders' Cup Stakes (gr. III), is also the dam of 1999 Canadian Oaks winner Touch Dial and Canadian grade III-placed Forever Rush.
Campaigned by owner/breeder Mrs. Janis Whitham, Fort Larned won the Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) and Whitney Invitational Handicap (gr. I) at 4 and the Stephen Foster Handicap Presented by Abu Dhabi (gr. I) at 5. He won 10 of 25 starts and earned $4,471,322 in four seasons on the track.
After standing his first season at Adena Springs Kentucky, the 7-year-old Fort Larned (E Dubai—Arlucea, by Broad Brush) will stand in 2015 at the newly re-opened stallion facility at Adena Springs South near Williston, Fla. His fee will be $12,500 ($5,000 of which will be paid by Gulfstream Park Breeders' Incentive Program).
